Range Rover Evoque has no Land Rover badging–is this the beginning of the split? And more importantly, do I have to rename this blog?

Just going off the newly released pictures, I just realized the Evoque has no Land Rover badging at all.  Now this could just be these pictures, but I wonder if this is really the split that’s been written about – spinning off Range Rover as it’s own brand.  They already removed the rear Land Rover badge from The Range Rover & Range Rover Sport in 2010, but did keep the front grill badge.  Currently the wheel caps & steering wheels in the larger models get Land Rover badges, along with some interior door badges as well.

Looking closely at the Evoque, all those spots now display Range Rover badging, I guess they don’t want anyone mistaking it for an LR2 or Land Rover in general – may not be a bad idea.

And here is the rear badging, this design moves the model designation to the left side and looks like it’s comes in colors depending on the Evoque model you choose:

One final piece of info both the LRX & the first picture of this model they released just about one year ago both still had Land Rover badging.  I just wonder when the decision was made to drop them?

New little Range Rover optioned with 2WD

I know there’s a business case for it, but to name something a Range Rover and give it a two-wheel drive system, just doesn’t seem right.  I’m sure adding a model to the full Land Rover line-up that could lower their average emissions is something they really need.

You can read more about it here:

In the same vein, here are the latest spy shots of that new upcoming vehicle.  I am surprised how close they are keeping it to the concept.  While there’s definitely more to it, it looks like they just gave the concept real door handles & side view mirrors.  The Range Stormer had been shown after the Range Rover Sport was basically done, and maybe they’re doing the same thing here.  I’m more interested to see where the interior comes in – as I said before, I’m hoping for some cues as to what we’re going to see in the next Range Rover.

New top level gallery added – Range Rover LRX

Although we don’t know it’s exact model designation yet, I’m going to call it the RR LRX for now.  I’m not crazy about it being a Range Rover model, but I guess they need to give it an up market feel and name so it’s not completely thought of as an LR2 Plus.

And as far as Range Rover cues, after looking back at the LRX concept pics, it’s always had the floating roof, a distinctive Range Rover feature since the early days, maybe that was an early cue to the naming.

There’s only one picture out there now:
