Official PR:

  • Range Rover Sport SVR: Fastest and most powerful production Land Rover ever laps legendary Nordschleife circuit in Germany in 8 minutes 14 seconds.
  • Achieved without compromising the vehicle’s class-leading all terrain capabilities or high levels of comfort.

Whitley, UK, 30 July 2014 – The Range Rover Sport SVR has lapped the famous Nordschleife circuit at the Nürburgring in Germany in 8 minutes 14 seconds, making it the fastest production SUV around the Nürburgring. The impressive feat was carried out by a Land Rover driver testing a standard production example of the potent new performance flagship.

The new SVR, which made its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June returned to the Nürburgring this month to continue an exhaustive testing schedule. The Range Rover Sport SVR is powered by an uprated version of Land Rover’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, which has been tuned to deliver 550PS – a 40PS increase over the existing V8 Supercharged derivative.

The handling characteristics of the SVR have been honed on the demanding Nürburgring Nordschleife because the undulating circuit’s challenging layout represents the ultimate test for high performance vehicles.

Mike Cross, Chief Engineer Vehicle Integrity, said:"The Nürburgring is a benchmark for vehicle development and testing, and cars become stronger, more durable and faster over its 13 miles and 70-plus corners. We wanted to see whether an SUV could behave like a performance car in this challenging environment. The results are spectacular and the Range Rover Sport SVR has demonstrated outstanding on-road performance capabilities."

Development of the Range Rover Sport SVR has been carried out by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations team, with the aim of producing the most performance-focused Range Rover Sport ever. This has been achieved without compromising the vehicle’s class-leading all terrain capabilities or high levels of comfort.  The Range Rover Sport SVR features a twin-speed transfer case to provide a choice of high and low gear ratios and the same 850mm wading depth as other models in the Range Rover Sport line-up.

The Range Rover Sport SVR will arrive in Land Rover showrooms in 2015.

Minor updates for MY2015 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport

Various sources indicated to me that the MY2015 wouldn’t bring too many changes and now I know which of my sources to really believe – even had the new silver color in a tip.

Here’s the official PR, not much but I definitely could have used the Intelligent Cargo Mode on the 4th of July.  And the fixed panoramic roof is great, it would make for a tough decision – go for full glass without the crossbeam or keep the crossbeam and the ability to open the roof up.

  • 500,000 Range Rover Sport vehicles have been produced since Land Rover redefined the performance SUV sector in 2005

The fastest and most powerful ever production Land Rover will make its public debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed (27 to 29 June). The Range Rover Sport SVR will be the first model to wear the new SVR designation, which will be worn by all future high performance models.

A camouflaged prototype of the 550PS Range Rover Sport SVR will take a break from its demanding development schedule to give spectators a chance to experience the sights and sounds of the most exhilarating Land Rover ever produced. It will perform a series of runs up the famous Goodwood Hill course in the ‘First Glance’ category.

The SVR is currently undergoing development prior to going on sale in 2015. Details of the vehicle’s 550PS powertrain are still under wraps, but crowds can expect a thrilling soundtrack to match its impressive pace. Performance data for the SVR will extend the Range Rover Sport’s established capabilities as the fastest, most agile and most responsive Land Rover ever built.

The Range Rover Sport SVR has been created by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations team and all future SVR models will need to meet stringent key performance criteria in order to wear the SVR badge. They will be built alongside existing models and sold through the Land Rover dealer network in the usual way.

Range Rover Sport SVR – designed, engineered and built in Britain – amplifies the engineering integrity, robustness and attention to detail that are hallmarks of today’s Land Rover brand.

Land Rover redefined the performance SUV sector with the launch of the original Range Rover Sport in 2005, successfully combining sports performance with uncompromised all-terrain capabilities. This is reflected in the current tally of 500,000 vehicles produced.
