Someone in China has taken credit for my site! I feel truly legitimate now, it’s like those knock-off iPhones!

This is separate of Ovalnews, but I still think it’s amusing.  This site is an off-shoot of my original site ROVERHAUL.com.  On that site I documented my year long frame-off restoration of a 1971 Land Rover Series IIA.  It’s still very popular, I get questions & comments constantly.  I was going through the stats on the site; always checking out the largest and most interesting referring sites.  Tonight I found a Chinese language webboard with a 26-page long thread in which the author “documented” the restoration of “his” 1971 Land Rover – funny thing was, all of his pictures were mine.  He cropped all of our faces, used filters and watermarked each one.  He really went to some trouble to make it like it was all his.  On one hand I almost feel bad because it’s pretty pathetic and on the other hand I’m just mad.

But, it is what it is – still made me laugh out loud.  Best post was the one where someone else pointed out that he was a fraud using this image he posted – this is dedication:

And another amusing post in which someone said he should use a better camera, he had a response but in actuality it was state of the art digital camera for 2003!

Go check it out and you can decide if he’s really the one who did the restore, haha.  This thread has been viewed 109,000 times.

International version of Build Your Own Range Rover has the new MY2014.5 options, shows Hybrid & mentions LWB

The International version of landrover.com usually has interesting options that you don’t see everywhere else.  This time it’s scooped the UK site with 2014.5 details, including the Range Rover Hybrid and mention of the Long Wheel Base (LWB).

In no particular order:

I immediately went to interior options of an Autobiography to see if there was any mention of the new front seat design and there it was:

Semi Aniline Leather Seat Style 24

• 18 Way Drivers / 18 Way Passenger Front Seats
• Front and Rear Climate Seats
• Massage Front Seats with Adjustable Seat Bolsters
• Driver and Passenger Memory
• Rear Bench Seat with Load Through Facility with Rear Power Recline
• 4 Way Rear Seat Power Lumbar
• Passenger Seat Away
• Driver and Front Passenger Upper Seat Articulation
Driver and Front Passenger Upper Seat Articulation is a new feature that allows the driver and front passenger to adjust the upper part of their seats, providing an extra level of comfort and functionality.

The Upper Seat Articulation isn’t available on the non-Autobiography models shown there – hopefully it won’t be Autobiography only.

The next find was within the same section, just incremented to the Style 25 seats, they include the Executive Seating but add this note:

• Rear Executive Class Seating with Rear Power Recline (Long Wheelbase is Extended power recline)

First official mention of the LWB I think!?

Another option that I haven’t seen before but it could be an international quirk, there are now two types of wood trim packages, the standard one and one labeled as “Extended Veneer Pack”  As the car was for 2013, there was wood on the doors, serving as the outside of the small build in cubby.  On this site, if you choose a non-Autobiography and don’t choose the Extended Veneer Pack, you don’t get that slab of horizontal wood.  It’s similar to how the new Range Rover Sport is.  I really hope this is a quirk.  They should add more wood for the Autobiography, not remove it from the lesser models.

We also learn that the Range Rover Hybrid gets the 21 inch Six Spoke ‘Style 10’ wheels, described as such:

Designed specifically for a Hybrid engine. These directional wheels enhance the exterior of the vehicle and provide improved performance.

They come in Diamond Turned too, known as Style 11.

So that’s it for now, go explore and see what else we can find:

2014 Range Rover Sport – What is this marker on the virtual speedo?

l494-speedoq

In the various PR videos, we’ve gotten a glimpse of the updated & somewhat optional 12.3” TFT digital gauge display for the 2014 Range Rover Sport.  In the shot above we can see it’s in Dynamic mode because of the icon above the word Range and the red colors that accent the graphics.

There are a few interesting items there, including the now returned green Land Rover badge.  But the one that caught my eye the most is in the bottom left quadrant of the speedo:

What is that?  Anyone have an idea??

While still on the fence – it’s this picture that’s pushing me towards a Range Rover vs. a new Range Rover Sport

Decisions, decisions – It’s like 2004 all over again!

Extremely impressed with the new Range Rover Sport, so much so that I’m actually considering one.  It does look even better in person, the overly Evoque cues seems to diminish in real life.

But after seeing this image from the 65th Anniversary celebration:

All I see is an Evoque on the left and a Range Rover on the right.  To the point where I have to actually study the vehicle on the left because a somewhat quick glance just looks like an Evoque to me.

Is it just a bad color choice for this image?  Is it the visual proximity to the Range Rover?

Or is it just a big Evoque?
