International Land Rover site shows Apple CarPlay Option Pack for new Discovery

With a tip from a reader earlier today we saw the Smartphone Pack option available to add to the build of a new Discovery.  At first I didn’t see it on the USA or UK site but when accessing through the Land Rover International home page, which often does have things you don’t normally see, we find the new option pack that adds Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Both are described as such and yes even the Android Auto screen says “Simply connect your iPhone”:

A simple and intuitive interface. Designed to minimise distraction so that you can stay focused on the road. Simply connect your iPhone via USB and control compatible apps on the in-car Touchscreen.

Jaguar Land Rover has been on the CarPlay list since its inception but never shipped in a vehicle.  We even found Apple CarPlay icons in an early InControl Touch Pro build.

Does this mean it’s really coming this time?

Range Rover Velar cargo capacity, which is it? 650L ≈ 24cu ft not 34cu ft. But all other capacity UK/US conversions match – why?

l560-cargo-comparo

It looks like it’s something with the UK/US conversion.

650 liters seems to equate to ~23 cu ft. And 650L is how they present it in UK literature when vehicle doesn’t have full-size spare. Further to the conversion, UK site says with all rear seats folded and without full-size spare, space is 1690L. 1690L is ~60 cu ft, which does match US brochure and website.

The ~650L number is the same for both F-Pace and Velar on their respective UK websites. But for US market both show ~34 cu ft in various locations.

So it’s probably part marketing, part typo, part some different US capacity formula that makes 10 cu ft manifest?

Did Land Rover tech site confirm 2.0L Ingenium Petrol Hybrid for 2018 Range Rover?

l405-my18-hybrid

Found some interesting changes for the MY18 Range Rover while browsing around on TOPIx today.  We knew they’ve been testing them but still don’t know all the details.  Still showing the existing 3.0L V6 Diesel and 5.0L V8 Supercharged options, they’ve removed the V6 Petrol and added in the 2.0L AJ200P Ingenium Petrol engine suffixed as a Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle(PHEV).  Transmission also gets a new name.  Range Rover Sport also got the PHEV option and it continues to show the 3.0L V6 Petrol as an option(see below).

The previous Hybrid available in the UK was diesel based and did not use the same moniker for the transmission.

A 4-cylinder Range Rover.  Can’t wait to see the numbers, I bet it’s going to be impressive.  And this MY18 refresh is going to be a big one.

UPDATE: Further still, another little bit of info was right there too:

The CDA suffix for the 5.0L V8 – CDA is Cylinder Deactivation.

Ovalnews Mock-up 2017, Is this what The Range Rover could look like with InControl Touch Pro Duo?

Photoshop’s Perspective Warp really helped to make this mock-up.  I know it’s not perfect and there is plenty to nitpick but the general concepts are there – InControl Touch Pro Duo, Steering Wheel Controls, Gauge graphic from Velar, Removed controls rear of Rotary Gear Selector.  I was going to stick a Land Rover logo on there but couldn’t get a version I liked.

Here’s my mock-up from July 2015 showing what we thought ICTP would look like in the Range Rover.  When it finally showed up in 2017 it was quite close…
