2014 Range Rover Sport getting Head-Up Display (HUD), just not in the US. #NewRangeRoverSport

No pics on this, just some text from the international PR:

HUD:

The new model is the first Range Rover to offer a Head-Up Display, using laser technology for superior clarity and contrast. The colour display projects key vehicle and navigation data directly into the driver’s field of vision. The height and brightness of the display can be manually adjusted.

For comparison, here is what BMW is doing with their HUD.

2014 Range Rover Sport – I like it #NewRangeRoverSport

As always I try not to cover the things that everyone else does, so my comments here are just my own bullet points.

Having had a couple days to study the pics, I really do like the new Range Rover Sport.  It’s worlds beyond what they gave us when they released the Range Rover Sport Classic back in 2005.  I think this one deserves the name more than its predecessor.  While the Range Rover Sport Classic was really just a RR body on an LR3, this new Range Rover Sport is just a smaller Range Rover in design and execution.  It gets all the advances that the 2013 Range Rover brought and uses them for an even more sporting feel.

A quick look at the interior would make the casual user think it’s the real Range Rover.  It doesn’t appear to have any of the compromises that the Range Rover Sport Classic had.

My biggest complaint is with the rear, it’s just to Evoque-ish for me.  Too rounded, too toy-like.

For when every Range Rover model is supercharged but only one gets the badge…

Wave2_Edit_008

For MY2014, all U.S. Range Rovers will have supercharged engines.  However the distinct Supercharged model still exists with the 510 bhp V8.

Will Land Rover rebadge that model?  Or just leave it as is?

Conversations like this might start to cause some confusion come September 2013:

  • Person 1: Just got my new Range Rover.
  • Person 2: Cool, is it Supercharged?
  • Person 1: Yeah, it’s great!
  • Person 2: It must really fly with those 510 bhp.
  • Person 1: But mine only has 340 bhp?
  • Person 2: Awkward.

While I’m not a fan of people falsely badging their cars, all 2014 Range Rover owners have the right to stick that Supercharged badge on their tailgate, no?

Haha, I’ve found my new bone to pick – someone has to look out for these V6 Range Rover drivers!
