Range Rover Evoque – Full Interior Color Options for the Prestige Model #rangeroverevoque

Through a great Ovalnews reader(THANKS!), I received a Range Rover Evoque brochure that I had not seen before, nor had I found the info it contained anywhere on the Land Rover website.  So this post starts a deluge of new Evoque info, starting with some interior colorways for the Prestige model.  I know we’ve seen some of this before but never all together will all the various color options, names & descriptions.

Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate Edition #rangerover

All I can say is wow – this popped up on Autocar.co.uk and was a complete surprise.  A new limited Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate Edition will be shown at the Geneva Auto show next month.  With just 500 examples worldwide, and costing around £130,000, this will be the Ultimate Range Rover.

For me it’s always about the interiors and seeing what we see here, it makes me even more excited about what they’re going to do on the all new Range Rover we’ll see in 2013.  This is the kind of bespoke look we need.  And those wood door toppers are a direct throw back to the 1981 Range Rover Vogue – Why didn’t we have that all along??  AWESOME – NEED MORE PICTURES!  And those are iPads in the rear headrests.  And it looks like it has the electronically retractable running boards too.

And for a quick throwback – here’s a spec sheet on the 1981 Range Rover with it’s wood door capping and Picnic Coolbox, just like the Ultimate!

Preview of the Range Rover Evoque 8” Touchscreen? #rangeroverevoque

So the Evoque has been described as having the “Range Rover brand’s 8-inch(203mm) high-definition touchscreen display”, which I guess is new for the “brand’ because the current models I believe all have 7” screens.  Anyway, I noticed that the new XJ touchscreen had a similar look to the quick shots we’ve seen of the Evoque, not identical but similar design language – the XJ has the 8” screen too.

So while doing a little searching around, I found that Jaguar actually has a Flash-based and what appears to be Windows only; emulator for their touch screen & HVAC controls.

So again, I realize it’s not identical to the Evoque’s but if the little things like this interest you like they do me, you may want to check it out:

One thing I did notice on the XJ that the Land Rover designers didn’t do, was try to eliminate as many buttons as possible.  Which while a nice thing to do to clear up the clutter and confusion, some odd choices/compromises were made.  Like the climatic seats, there seems to be a lot of tapping on the screen to set what you want – I realize going this way does add more options with less buttons, but on the other side, these changes now can’t be done without looking.  Without a physical switch/button/knob, how much muscle memory gets trained?  A hard button gets you to the screen but then it’s just a lot of tapping.

And then there’s the physical audio controls, instead of putting that musical note button next to Mode, why not put a Pause button?  You could move the left transport control to the left once more and then add Pause button right in the middle.  Of all hard buttons they replaced with this design, why do you need a hard button to set the Base & Treble – is it really used that often?

Then you’ve got those “Shortcuts” which seem to be for the most part not things that you may be changing all that often – Language?  Animation preferences?

Sorry XJ, you’re an awesome car, it just seems the UI designers may need a bit more time for polish.  Maybe the Evoque’s system is v2 for the new 8” JLR screens?

Either way, go check this out.

Range Rover – Rear Seat Recline–Controls for Style 2

Land Rover usually doesn’t give too many official shots of lower level trim/options – most of the pictures you see on the website or in brochures are of the Autobiography’s.

While searching around for something else, I found this shot of the controls for the reclining rear seat option in the Range Rover, first time I’ve seen them.  This is the Style 2 option, available with the HSE LUX package & in the Supercharged models for $1250.  For the Autobiography, the upgraded Style 3 comes as standard, it cost $2500 prior to MY2011.

For comparison, here are the Style 3 controls, which add in adjustable lumbar support along with seat heating & cooling.  Rear seat heating is standard on all Range Rovers, normally those controls are on the center rear HVAC console, but the are relocated to the door with the Style 3 package.

One additional feature that’s added in with either Style – “Passenger Seat Memory”.  I think I remember having this on a 1995 Range Rover, but I don’t believe any of the current generation have had it.  Here’s a shot from an Autobiography – you can see the memory controls there for the passenger seat:
