SSM75742 – Approach unlocking, keyless entry and unlocking with the smart key inoperative
Issue:
JLR is investigating customers reporting being unable to unlock their vehicles using approach unlocking or keyless entry as the smart key appears inoperative. Once access has been achieved through using the emergency key blade access process, the vehicle will not start as the smart key is not recognized but the engine can be started using the Immobilizer Antenna Unit (IAU).Cause:
Software instability
Walk–away Locking:
The walk-away locking procedure initiates when a door is opened or closed. The vehicle locks when a smart key immediately adjacent to the outside of the opened door or within the vehicle moves beyond 2 m (78 in). Without driver intervention, the vehicle centrally locks and the alarm sensors activate once walk-away locking is complete. Walk-away locking also tracks any keys inside the vehicle to make sure they are seen externally before locking. Walk-away locking can be enabled or disabled via the Vehicle menu of System Settings
Approach Unlocking:
Approach unlocking automatically unlocks the doors on the approached side of the vehicle when the smart key is detected within 1.5 m (59 in) of the vehicle. The doors automatically unlock and door handles deploy on the approached side. Pulling either deployed handle will complete the unlocking and alarm disarming procedure. The unlocking and alarm disarm procedure is indicated by the side mirrors unfolding and direction indicators flashing the unlock flash sequence.
If the vehicle is set to single point entry and only the driver’s door is opened, the vehicle will not unlock the passenger doors on the non-approached side. When the smart key is brought inside the vehicle, the rear driver’s side door will re-lock and its exterior door handle will retract.
If the smart key is taken beyond 1.5m (59 in) of the side of the vehicle without pulling either handle, both doors will re-lock and their handles will retract. The vehicle reverts to its previous locked and alarmed state.
If the smart key is inside the 1.5m (59 in) boundary for more than 40 seconds without a door handle being opened, the approach unlocking feature disables. Both doors will re-lock and their handles will retract. The vehicle reverts to its previous locked and alarmed state.
Approach unlocking can be enabled or disabled via the Vehicle menu of System Settings.
