2014 Range Rover Sport getting Head-Up Display (HUD), just not in the US. #NewRangeRoverSport

No pics on this, just some text from the international PR:

HUD:

The new model is the first Range Rover to offer a Head-Up Display, using laser technology for superior clarity and contrast. The colour display projects key vehicle and navigation data directly into the driver’s field of vision. The height and brightness of the display can be manually adjusted.

For comparison, here is what BMW is doing with their HUD.

Range Rover Westminster is back for 10th Anniversary #rangerover

2012-rr-west

Seems like the Westminster gets the old Autobiography look, while the actual Autobiography gets the new standard for 2012, Range Rover Exterior Design Pack.  And clearly this is a UK model, doubt we’ll see it here…

RANGE ROVER CELEBRATES ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY WITH NEW SPECIAL EDITIONS

· New 2012 Special Edition Range Rover models: delivering increased luxury and higher specifications as current Range Rover enters its 10th anniversary year

· TDV8 Westminster Edition: new model builds on the success of the TDV8 Vogue and Vogue SE, with added styling, comfort and entertainment features

· TDV8 Autobiography and Supercharged Autobiography: both new versions presented, as standard, with the Range Rover Exterior Design Pack – a collection of exterior styling highlights specifically designed to enhance road presence

Gaydon, Warwickshire, 6th February 2012 – The Range Rover enters its 10th anniversary year in 2012, continuing to set benchmarks in luxury, capability and performance. Going beyond the 2012 model year enhancements that were introduced in October 2011, the Range Rover line-up is being developed to include three new Special Editions; The TDV8 Westminster, TDV8 Autobiography and Supercharged Autobiography.

The new arrivals focus on further extending the luxury and high specifications that are at the core of the Range Rover brand.

In 2012 Land Rover celebrates 10 years of Range Rover in its current guise. The third generation Range Rover was introduced in 2002 to critical acclaim setting new benchmarks in levels of luxury and all-terrain capability. Over the past decade, several facelifts and model year updates have kept the Range Rover at the cutting edge of technology leading up to the latest special editions, which will provide customers with increased options and convenience.

Westminster Edition

The new Range Rover Westminster Edition joins the line-up to replace the previous TDV8 Vogue and Vogue SE models. Going further than its predecessors, it comes handsomely equipped with an extensive collection of additional features that raise both the vehicle’s prestige style and comfort levels for everyone on board.

The exterior of the Westminster Edition is distinguished by the bright ‘Noble’ finish to the front grille and side vents, ‘Titan’ silver lower splitter bar and fog lamp bezels, 20-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels and ‘Westminster’ badging. Opening the doors reveals illuminated treadplates and a cabin finished with luxury carpets and Grand Black lacquer trim elements, plus bright-finished pedal finishers. The front seats feature both heating and cooling functions and the in car entertainment system benefits from a 19-speaker, 1,200W harman/kardon LOGIC7 surround sound system as well as Range Rover’s innovative Dual View infotainment screen.

Featuring the powerful yet refined 4.4-litre TDV8 engine with eight-speed automatic transmission, the new Westminster Edition is available in a choice of seven exterior colours, with five interior colour combinations. The standard equipment specification further includes an electric sunroof, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers, Park Distance Control with rear-view camera, memory setting for the steering wheel, driver’s seat and rear-view mirror and a heated, leather trimmed steering wheel.

TDV8 Autobiography and Supercharged Autobiography

Bold design and ultimate luxury underpin the new Range Rover TDV8 Autobiography and Supercharged Autobiography. Both benefit as standard from the Range Rover Design Pack, a collection of exterior styling features that are seamlessly integrated to compliment the car’s powerful appearance, without compromising its classic lines.

The pack introduces new front and rear bumpers, ‘Titan’ silver front grille and side vent treatments and fog lamp surrounds, integrated stainless steel exhaust finishers and side skirts. These are complemented by striking 20-inch alloy wheels in Shadow Chrome.

Inside the focus is on unparalleled luxury and comfort with the Range Rover Seat Style Pack. This comprises rear seats with recline and lumbar adjustment, heating and cooling functions and multi-adjustable aircraft-style headrests with wings for added support. The passenger “front seat away” function provides a simple control for adding extra rear legroom, while the front passenger seat itself benefits from a memory function than can store up to three different personalised settings.

Both versions gain the 19-speaker, 1,200W harman/kardon LOGIC7 surround sound system and are fitted with illuminated treadplates. Seven exterior finishes are available, together with an extensive range of interior colour and trim combination options. The TDV8 Autobiography retains its 4.4-litre engine and eight-speed automatic transmission, with the Supercharged Autobiography powered by the 5.0-litre LR-V8 petrol unit with six-speed automatic gearbox.

Sales and pricing

The new Range Rover Special Edition models go on sale in March. The TDV8 Westminster Edition is £69,995, presenting customers with significant additional feature content over and above the specification of the former Vogue and Vogue SE models.

On-the-road prices for the TDV8 Autobiography and Supercharged Autobiography are £84,295 and £86,895 respectively.

2012 Land Rover Discovery 4 Brochure, interesting updates! #landrover #discovery

A loyal reader, Patrick, sent me the scoop on these 2012 brochures.  They were definitely news to me!

We’ll start with the 2012 Discovery 4, which gained, along with some other tweaks, the rotary shifter along with updated Terrain Response controls, the Range Rover Evoque’s touch screen system, what look like huge rear seat entertainment screens & the updated smaller Smart Key.  I’m sure some of this stuff may be old news to people already driving Evoques in the UK.

I like what they did with that Land Rover branding

Also related to the rotary shifter, a new option I haven’t seen before, Drive Select Rotary Shifter Upgrade, requires Leather Drive Select Top Cover.

Here’s that new Smart Key.  Again probably old news to Evoque owners, I noticed this key in a Land Rover press photo from a couple of weeks ago but he’s a better view.

Finally a shot of the larger RSE screens:

Thanks again Patrick!!

UK Market announces Style Changes And Feature Upgrades For 2012 Range Rover #rangerover

Now going into its final year, these may be the final tweaks we see for the current Range Rover, first released in 2002.  A lot of this information had already been discussed online for a while but now it’s official.

And this the information for the UK Market, the North American press release still hasn’t happened.

· Introducing two new option packs – Vogue Silver and Vogue Black

· New 20" V Spoke Alloy Wheels

· Gloss Black head and tail lamp back plates

· Narvik Black front grille surround (Their website calls it Sumatra Black, typo?)

· Body coloured side vent surrounds and door handles

· ZF 8HP70 8-speed automatic transmission continues to partner 4.4 LR-TDV8

· Powerful 4.4 LR-TDV8 engine, 313PS, 700Nm torque, EU5

· LR-V8 Supercharged engine, 510PS, 625Nm torque, EU5

· LR-V8 naturally aspirated, 375PS, 510Nm torque, EU5

Here are some pictures with the press release to follow at the end.  Oddly, the few pictures they did give us don’t really show the exterior changes all that well.  I’m mostly talking about the new body colored door handles & side vents.  The color they chose was close to what the old door handles used to be, so the contrast is almost moot.  They really should have shown us a darker version, where it would clearly show the black door handles and side vents.  I’m going to stick a picture from the Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate, which did also have the body colored door handles and was shown in a darker color.

This last picture is from the Autobiography Ultimate, so you can see what body colored door handles look like since the official 2012 pictures do an awful job of it.

Update, I did find this shot but it’s lower-res.  The white door handles & side vents do show up better.

The 2012 Range Rover consolidates its position as the world’s most luxurious SUV with a host of style changes and feature upgrades, including new option packs for the Vogue and Autobiography models.

"The Range Rover always has been and remains the definitive, luxury SUV and one whose off-road performance matches its comfort levels and performance. New equipment levels, revised styling and generously specified option packs make it the one to beat in 2012," says John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director.

The Range Rover exterior has been enhanced for 2012 with detail styling changes. Headlamp and tail lamp back plates are now finished in gloss black, while the front grille surround is finished in Narvik Black. Door handles and side vents match the body colour to create a modern, integrated look and new 20" V spoke alloy wheels finished in mid silver sporting a Range Rover branded centre cap, round off the changes to the exterior.

The Grand Black wood veneers on the 2012 Range Rover now have a crisp inlay which reads ‘Range Rover’. Autobiography veneers are available in a choice of Burr Maple Prussian Blue, Anthracite Lined Oak or Ash Burl.

The Range Rover Vogue model offers a highly distinctive new look with unique tailgate badging, reflecting the customer’s choice of either the Vogue Silver Pack or Vogue Black Pack. Both derivatives include the widely acclaimed Logic 7, 1200W Harman Kardon High Dynamics Audio System, heated and cooled seats for each passenger, and an 8-inch Dual View infotainment screen – allowing the driver to view the navigation display whilst the passenger can relax watching a video.

Additionally, the Vogue Silver Pack offers a Supercharged Design Pack comprising of a bright noble finish to the front grille and side vents.

Customers opting for the Vogue Black Pack will sport the Exterior Design Pack. This includes revised front bumper with fog lamp surrounds, front grille and side vents in Titan finish, revised side sills, rear bumper and stainless steel exhaust finishers.

The Range Rover Autobiography now comes with three new option packs – Prestige, Dynamic and Technology – which can be ordered individually or in combination to offer customers the ultimate in Range Rover luxury.

The Prestige Pack includes extended Autobiography colourways, Grand Black veneers and reclining rear seats; the Dynamic Pack includes the exterior Design Pack with the addition of 20" Shadow Chrome alloy wheels; whilst the Technology Pack comprises Vision Assist, 4-zone air conditioning, the Harmon Kardon Logic 7 1200W audio system and rear seat entertainment.

The Range Rover engine line-up remains unchanged for 2012.

The powerful 4.4 LR-TDV8 – specifically designed for the Range Rover – develops 313PS at 4,000rpm and 700Nm torque at between 1,500rpm and 3,000rpm. With combined fuel consumption of 30.1mpg, this made it one of the most powerful and economical diesels in the world at its introduction in 2011. Combined with the super-efficient ZF 8HP70 8-speed automatic transmission it returns CO2 emissions of just 253g/km.

The Supercharged LR-V8 remains one of the most uncompromisingly powerful and efficient petrol engines in its class, producing 510PS at between 6,000rpm and 6,500rpm with torque of 625Nm from 2500rpm-5500rpm. This immense performance, allows the Supercharged Range Rover to accelerate from 0-60mph in a mere 5.9 seconds.

The naturally aspirated LR-V8 is one of the most refined engines of its type, combining a silky smooth power delivery with unparalleled efficiency. Power output is 375PS at 6,500rpm with torque of 510Nm at 3,500rpm, reaching 60mph from rest in just 7.2 seconds.

All Range Rover engines conform to EU5 emissions regulations.
